Holy Wind Creation Story

Níłchʼi Diyin (Holy Wind) animated and brought purpose to the Diyin Dine’é (Holy People) and their activities. The Holy People came with buckskins and two perfect ears of corn. One ear was white, the male corn. The other ear was yellow, the female corn. They placed a buckskin on the ground facing west and on it they placed the corn facing east. Under the white corn they put a white eagle feather. Under the yellow corn they placed a yellow eagle feather. As the Holy Wind blew, each of the Holy People walked four times around objects they had carefully placed on the ground and the feathers began to move. In this way, they transformed Áłtsé Hastiin (First Man) and Áłtsé Asdzą́ą́ (First Woman) from spirit people into human beings with great power.
